What motivates you in your educational pursuits or your current career? Analyze your response from the perspectives of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs and Herzberg’s two-factor theory. Using this information, discuss in-depth which perspective provided you with the most insight. What changes would be most likely to improve your performance? The Maslow’s hierarchy of needs theory and Herzberg’s two-factor theory asserted the significance of job satisfaction and factors that lead to motivate individuals in different phase of life. From my personal views, I am motivated by the personal pursuit of gaining knowledge and experiences which will not only enrich my physical life. I strive to achieve a life that is full of comforts and luxury. Gaining knowledge will help me to climb the professional ladder in my organisation leading to better prospects in promotion and higher salary. Gaining knowledge and experience will also get me respect in the society and help me enter the higher social class. These factors will enhance my self-esteem. The Maslow’s hierarchy of needs provided me more insight into what actually motivates a person and drives them to achieve higher goals in life. The pyramid rightly represents the fulfilment of needs and the desire to attain the higher goals in life. However, I do not agree with the sequence of the hierarchy of needs, and believe that one can get motivated by the esteem and self-actualisation needs prior to getting the security and safety needs be met. Thus, it all depends on which category of needs is motivating an individual. I believe that completing various educational courses and simultaneously pursuing a professional career will help me in improving my performance as I will not only be gaining more knowledge but will also be implementing the knowledge in a professional job context.
