Proposed Research Topic: In addressing the Racial Wealth Gap, the Role of Black Banks The proposed topic for research is the role of black banks. It addresses the post-Civil War era to the present, the gap of racial wealth in the United States. This tenure comes under from the late 19th century through the 21st century and addresses significant developments in African American economic empowerment and the challenges posed by systemic racism in banking and finance. My reason for choosing this topic is because it highlights the intersection of race and economics and shows the emerging of black banks as a repercussion as discrimination and segregation. These institutions faced insurmountable challenges due to systemic barriers even though it tried to build economic growth within African American communities. By understanding the historical context and evolution of black banking it can bring out an insight on economic inequality and racial justice. By doing so this research can contribute to a deeper understanding of how financial institutions can either perpetuate or alleviate economic disparities and make it a relevant and timely subject for exploration.
