Answer Below:

Ans 1 and 2) I work at a corporate company as a team lead with a team of 18 to 20 people of diverse cultures and different educational backgrounds from various locations of the world; some of the team members tend to have mental health issues and more - you get the point, so when working with such a diverse team it is necessary to have all characteristics of critical thinking manage such a team and conduct myself professionally while sustaining the production rate required by the company, it allows me to assess several factors involved and communicate the right intended message with utmost care to the team member without discouraging them. On many occasions, we'd be forced to employ logical and reasoning skills to make a decision; for instance, a person from my team who was poorly performing had to be fired (as per the instructions from the management). However, the person was suffering from a mental illness and had to support her poor family; in such a scenario, I had taken up the responsibility to vouch for her performance to the management and delay her layoff - as a team lead, I asked for two weeks time and trained her, helping her take baby steps in the company, and with effective communication I was able to understand she only required a broken down instruction, unlike others, with that small push she was able to perform just like any other. She was able to outperform others in less than a week's time. 3. Identify 3 to 4 barriers to critical thinking that you can relate to. Describe the barriers in your own words. Provide an example of a situation where you have, or might in the future, encounter each barrier. Note: You do not need to describe how you can overcome the barriers you identified. You will have that opportunity in a future assignment. Focus on the barriers to critical thinking and examples that are meaningful to you. I would like to take the environment or work culture of my team; we all know that it takes time to build synergy with the team member; as a team lead - working with people from diverse culture - some of the barriers I've faced while handling team were: resistance - I tend to have some personal beliefs or opinion about a few things, which is often challenged, I build a hidden wall rather than having open-mindedness to hear the team members opinion about a problem. Secondly, active listening, I would like to link active listening to avoidance - because I am experienced in the field, I fail to listen to my team members' different points, rather than holding on to a strong opinion. Third, fear of challenge - I am a little reluctant about being challenged when it comes to my experience being questioned; it breaks the possibility of me learning newer things in work or personal life, and it also grows into egocentrism - I stay self-centred. 4. Which of the 3 stages of cognitive development (dualism, relativism, commitment) are you at? Explain why you placed yourself in this stage of development. How might you move to the next stage if you are at stage 1 or 2, or how you might maintain stage 3? I believe this is something we always learn till the last breath of our life, but considering the example being discussed upon - I'd I am at the "Relativism" stage, understanding when there is no right answer, it means that there is no right or wrong to it, this is one stage that aid in sustaining a critical way of thinking under varied circumstances by assessing all the diverse factors before making a decision, it ain’t easy but with a constant reminder in every situation.
