1) Describe two factors we should consider when evaluating an argument (discussed in Ch. 6 of THiNK: Critical Thinking and Logic Skills for Everyday Life). Why are they important? When evaluating an argument as mentioned in Chapter 6, the two key factors to consider are credibility and logical consistency. Credibility involves assessing the trustworthiness of the sources and the evidence provided. Logical consistency ensures that the argument does not contain contradictions and follows a clear line of reasoning. Both are crucial because a credible source enhances reliability, while consistency ensures the argument holds up under scrutiny (Boss, 2021). 2)After reading Ch. 7 and 8 in THiNK: Critical Thinking and Logic Skills for Everyday Life, describe in your own words how inductive and deductive arguments are different. After reading Chapters 7 and 8 I noticed that inductive and deductive arguments differ according to their reasoning processes. Inductive reasoning moves from a particular observation to a broader generalized one, whereas deductive reasoning starts with general principles and applies them to specific cases. Inductive arguments are based on probability, while deductive ones are definitive. 3) After reading the facial recognition articles from the University Library, what did you think about the things you considered in reading these articles related to currency of the information, reliability and accuracy, the sources, and the purpose of the articles? Regarding facial recognition articles, I considered the currency of the information, reliability, and accuracy by checking publication dates and verifying sources. This was important for ensuring up-to-date and factual information. The articles showed how ethical consideration should be placed in terms of giving a punishment to the most ethical standard possible. For example, the purpose of the NYPD to use facial recognition technologies was to ensure that the right criminals are given appropriate punishments and the false ones do not get caught. This also educates the public about privacy and also about how ethics is very important ( James, 2019). 4) Reflect on the learning activities, concepts, ideas, and topics covered this week and discuss the most interesting activity or concept you learned this week as well as if there are any concepts that are still a bit confusing to you or that you have questions on.?? The most interesting concept this week was understanding the intricacies between inductive and deductive arguments.
