Introduction            Refining a research problem and purpose statement are important aspects needed to develop a well-focused and impactful study. This journey often involves revisiting initial ideas, narrowing the scope, and aligning the research with scholarly standards. My research centers on the differential impact of social media on adolescents’ mental health and social behavior, an area influenced by the digital world’s pervasive role in young lives. The refinement of variables—such as differentiating passive scrolling from active engagement—has been instrumental in sharpening the focus of the study and ensuring its relevance to current issues.  Research Problem           To develop a precise research problem, various factors, such as the dynamic nature of social media and the extensive existing literature on its effects, must be considered. To address these issues, I narrowed the scope to the adolescent developmental stage, which is susceptible to social influences. My research passion generally revolves around the current scenario happening with the emergence of the digital world, which is the impact of social media on the developmental period of adolescents. For instance, significant physical, emotional, and social changes have been evident during the adolescent developmental period. This process involved evaluating various variables, including specific social media activities, for example, passive scrolling vs active engagement, and demographic factors such as age, gender, and socioeconomic background. Resources such as Walden University’s Litmus Test 2016 were invaluable in ensuring my research problem and purpose were clear, feasible, and aligned with rigorous academic. Purpose Statement           The study aims to explain and explore the differential impact of social media on adolescents’ mental health and social behavior.           The journey of refining my research topic has been enlightening, where issues, such as global understanding and evaluation of developmental challenges adolescents face with social media inclusion. Similarly, it was imperative to carefully narrow down the variables required for the study, such as passive or active scrolling. Careful thought is needed to narrow down the variables to be studied. Next Steps           Moving forward, I plan to deepen my understanding of methodological approaches suitable for studying social media’s effects, including surveys, longitudinal studies, and qualitative research. I need to focus on selecting appropriate measurement tools and defining operational variables will be critical. I may also be required to collaborate with peers to exchange ideas and relevant insights that can even enrich the development of my research framework.  Conclusion           Developing my research ideas has been a reflective and iterative process emphasizing precision and clarity.
