Question.3936 - Hello class and welcome to the Week 12 group discussion about our research papers. For this discussion, you'll need to revisit the Week 11 lecture where I break down the various outline models you can have for your research paper. You should have already read over that lecture and considered what your outline will look like, and now for this discussion, you are going to write out your outline for everyone in our class to see. Once you complete your outline and post it here, then you will have completed step #1 in the research paper process. I will give you an example here: THESIS STATEMENT: You should write out your overall thesis statement here. It should not be vague or underdeveloped. By now, you should have a firm grasp on your topic, and your thesis should be pretty developed. And remember, these are solution-based research papers, so you should also offer something in the way of your solution here too. After you write out your thesis, you should include the following: Point #1: Water Subpoint A: <---------------> Source #1 (in-text citation) Subpoint B: <---------------> Source #2 (in-text citation) Point #2: Food Subpoint A: <---------------> Source #3 (in-text citation) Subpoint B: <---------------> Source #4 (in-text citation) Point #3: Jobs Subpoint A: <----------------> Source #5 (in-text citation) Subpoint B: <----------------> Source #6 (in-text citation) As you can see from this example, I have decided to have 3 main points in the body of my paper. For each point, I have two sub-points, and each sub-point has a source I have found on the QC database. As I said to you last week, you will need to invest time, not only in the creation of your outline, but also on the QC database where you find relevant and compelling sources that you will use in your research paper. For the purpose of this discussion, I want you to post your thesis statement and your outline. I also want you to list any sources that you have found and plan on using in your paper. You don't need to have all sources at this point, but you should have at least three. There is a minimum requirement of at least 6 sources for your research paper. After you have all this, there's one final thing I want you to write in this post. I want you to write out how you see your paper going. Write out what you think your sequence of points will be. Write out how you plan on incorporating your sources into your essay (quoting, paraphrasing, summarizing). Write out how you plan on addressing your solution.
Answer Below:
Thesis Statement: The current rate of world population growth poses a lot of threat factors such as negative environment impact, scarcity of resources, and societal disparity which has called for effective solution. Outline: Point #1: Environmental Impact Subpoint A: Population growth is known to lead to enhanced pollution and loss of habitats. In the opinion of Smith, "the strain on ecosystems from human activity intensifies as populations grow" (Smith 45). Subpoint B: It is evident that with increased Carbon emissions, densely populated regions are a major driver of climate change. According to Johnson, the principal concept under debate holds that urban areas contribute a large share of greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere (Johnson 67). Point #2: Resource Scarcity Subpoint A: The global quantity of water required daily to cater for needs by people is on the increase. Brown emphasizes that, approximately two billion people can have access to upgraded networks just in the following 12 months. Subpoint B: Nowadays demand on food increases due to the growing population and so, food production is required to enhance. According to Davis, sustainable agriculture is important with specific focus on the issue of food insecurity (Davis 89). Point #3: Social Challenges Subpoint A: Employment generation is slowly becoming a challenge especially due to the ever-growing populations across the world. Lee also pointed out that it is a major challenge to create enough employment in the developing world as he writes, "the challenge of providing sufficient employment opportunities is critical in developing nations" (Lee 34). Subpoint B: Knowledge and fertility control are essential tools in improving the lot of people. In this paper Martinez postulates that "investing in education and reproductive health can significantly influence population growth rates" (Martinez 56). The followings are the key purposes of this outline: The comprehensive understanding of the various impacts of population growth across the world; formulate strategies to manage the impacts of population on society and environment.
