Answer Below:

After looking at Angela Duckworth's Ted Talk on Grit she states that grit is a mix of passion and pushing through hard times which is a crucial factor for success in the long -term. Duckworth also brings a point that talent is not only a main factor for success. Duckworth stresses that talent alone is not sufficient for success. Instead, it is the sustained effort and resilience when challenges come to determine an individual’s ability to achieve their goals (Duckworth). She puts forth that grit is a better predictor of success than talent or intelligence and she underscores the importance of developing this trait over time through deliberate practice and a strong sense of purpose (Duckworth). 2) How do your experiences in school relate to Duckworth’s ideas? Do you agree or disagree with her assertions? Give at least one specific example to illustrate your claim. My experience in school strongly resonates with Duckworth's ideas about grit. For example, during my high school years, I was in a constant war with understanding mathematics. Despite putting in all my effort, I often found myself pulling my hair out because of the complexity of the subject. However, rather than giving up, I decided to approach the problem with perseverance. I put in extra time to study, seek help from teachers and try and try until I got the answer. With time, my understanding became more comprehensive and easy and I started to see myself achieving grades I never thought I would get. This experience taught me that perseverance and refusal to give up in the face of difficulties were more important than any natural aptitude I might have had for the subject. It aligns closely with Duckworth's statement that success is more about consistency rather than raw talent (Duckworth). I agree with Duckworth's emphasis on the importance of grit, as it reflects the reality that success is often a product of hard work and determination rather than raw talent. My experience with overcoming difficulties in math displays how grit can lead to improvement and success in areas where one might at first struggle. Duckworth's message is particularly relevant in the realm of education, where students constantly face obstacles that require more than just intelligence to fight it. By creating a space for grit, schools can help students develop the durability needed to get to their long-term goals, no matter the obstacles they encounter throughout their life (Duckworth). To conclude, Angela Duckworth's Ted Talk highlights why grit is so important to have in order to get to success. My own school experience supports her argument, showing that pushing through obstacles and true commitment is important for displaying resilience. As we consider whether schools should teach about grit and growth mindset, Duckworth's cognizance brings up a compelling case for the value of these traits in education. Reference Duckworth, Angela.
