Topic 5 DQ1 As a teacher, you may encounter many different cultures in your classroom at one time. How do you ensure that you are adequately supporting and celebrating the cultural diversity of all students in your class? If you were to come across situations in the future where your culturally and linguistically diverse students and families have needs that are being overlooked or underserved, what can you do as a teacher to demonstrate compassion, stand for justice, and promote human flourishing? When we discuss diversity in the classroom, it is a beautiful word. Different types of diversity can be seen in the classroom, such as cultural, linguistic, political belief, gender, etc. As a teacher, I appreciated and celebrated diversity in the classroom. It aids students in learning about the ideals of inclusion, culture, and respect. To value diversity, the first thing I do as a teacher maintains a positive relationship with my students and strive to understand their cultural background, academic level, and financial situation. (Bennett, 2021)The next step is to invite that culture into the classroom by allowing them to enjoy their special days there. They can exchange language, food, clothing, dance styles, and music, among other things. Another way I promote diversity is to design various lesson plans in which I attempt to incorporate all of the diversity. When talking about the history of wars, I try to include their history, wars, etc. (Bennett, 2021) Another thing I do is establish some class norms, such as respect for one another, tolerance for ideals, etc. I exhibit my compassion and justice by treating them with great care. I attempt to incorporate them into all of the activities that occur in the classroom to make the classes culturally sensitive. It encourages children to think about other cultures while also assisting them in their academic pursuits. (Bhat et al., 1970) I also developed a close relationship with the parents of students, which helped me to understand whether the students adjusted to the classroom atmosphere or not.
