William Edward Deming was not only a statistician but also a professor, author, lecturer and consultant. His amazing principles to create leaders were not only used in the healthcare industry but also by the motor industry of Japan. In comparison to Europe and America, Japan raised high in its manufacturing quality, only by following Deming’s principles. At the time of manufacturing their motor ex. Toyota Japan innovated its ideas on a long term basis and was ready for challenges they would have to face in the near future. Japan designed the cars according to the need of their customers and carried out their plans to lead. The cars were quality based from beginning to end, where the mistakes were eliminated and the processing was gone through. Japan even requested its suppliers to maintain the same quality of the parts and it itself also studied the quality. Japan took into consideration to put the system into regular updating. It took the pain to train and educate the laborers in order to avoid waste. This helped in improving its productivity. Workers were encouraged to work as a team. They were even given the right to express their ideas. Idea of equality was shown. Japanese industry not only supervised the work as a coach or a policeman, but even provided support to its workers. All the departments were asked to help each other as serving each other would lead to better work. Reference: Deming’s 14 point philosophy www.mindtools.com/pages/article/newSTR-75.htm
