Question.2134 - “The Implicit Association Test (IAT) measures attitudes and beliefs that people may be unwilling or unable to report. The IAT may be especially interesting if it shows that you have an implicit attitude that you did not know about. For example, you may believe that women and men should be equally associated with science, but your automatic associations could show that you (like many others) associate men with science more than you associate women with science.” Instructions For this assignment, take about 10 minutes to complete the assessment for Gender—Career IAT (https://implicit.harvard.edu/implicit/timeout.html) . Click “I wish to proceed,” “Gender-Career IAT,” and follow the instructions. Then, if you have time, choose another quiz for culture among any of the tests on skin tone, race, religion, or age. You only need to complete the first assessment for this assignment, though. The others are optional. Write a 1-page reflection paper on your results. Include the following: 1. What are some of your values and beliefs about gender and career? For example, do you think partners should have non-traditional gender roles or roles that are more conventional? 2. Did your results match what you typically think about/say to others about gender roles and careers, or were your results different? 3. Write about your thoughts and feelings as you completed the assignment. Note: use learning resources in your module to support your findings. Formatting Expectations Submit your paper as a double-spaced Microsoft Word document in 12-point Times New Roman font. Follow APA guidelines in preparing your submission.

Answer Below:

Reflection Introduction I have grown in a family wherein my mother was my primary caregiver even though both my mother and father were working full time. I expected my mother to look after needs more than my father, as I assumed that he is busy with his office work. I used to usually ask my mother for food when hungry and never ran to my father for the same. This is strange given that both my parents had equal working hours. However, now that times have changed, there is a shift in my beliefs about the gender roles. The traditional gender roles that were prevalent in the past does not hold true for the modern times as the family structure have changed drastically. Earlier, the family structure was joint with grandparents also living under the same roof giving a helping hand in the rearing of children. In the modern times, families have become nuclear and life has become fast with both parents working full time. Hence, I believe that it is the need of the hour that even the man gives equal contribution to home and child rearing as much a woman or a mother would be expected to do. I believe that woman also have a equal aspiration for career and professional growth, and should not be solely burdened with the responsibility of looking after her family needs. Conclusion The result reveals that I have a slight belief that the male resonates more with the career while the female is more associated with family. I guess the result comes from my childhood experience wherein I have grown seeing my mother taking care of most of my needs and family duties. However, in the present times my beliefs have changed drastically as I consider the family duties the responsibility of both male and females.
