The Developmental Test and Evaluation Process (DT & EP) has a significant role in the process of acquisition. The main role of DT& EP is to help in case of engineering design and as the name suggests, it also gives assistance in developmental testing. It is mainly a comparison tool as it helps in comparing the system with the current needs and specifications so that the risk is reduced to a greater extent and at the same time, the system developers are aware of the latest performance status of the system. The Developmental Test and Evaluation Process also helps to judge the ability of the product to meet the performance parameters which are assigned to it. Therefore, the main purpose of DT & EP is to assess the development and progress of the project and find out ways to reduce the problems associated with the project and lessen the risk. The Developmental Test and Evaluation process is very important for an acquisition. The involvement of DT&EP takes place at a very early stage of the acquisition lifespan. The implementation of the DT&EP at the initial stage of acquisition lifespan proves to be advantageous because the problems are detected at an earlier stage, and it can be subsequently worked upon to reduce the problems. Since, the problem is detected at an earlier stage, the performance of the program will improve at the subsequent stages, and it will lead to overall reduction in the costs associated with the program.
