Answer Below:

The client’s issues given are related to - Mental health and substance abuse and one of the most relevant theories that match his concerns is Behaviorism. This theory focuses on the fact that behavior is something that is derived in us with the interaction of environment and those factors that are inherited internally do not cause more influence on the behavior of an individual. So, this theory revolves around the fact that behaviorism is because behavior that is got through conditioning and all our actions are a result of the environmental stimuli (Adams, 2022). The researchers here also claim the fact that irrespective of any type of genetic background or personality traits, any person can be taught to perform any type of task with their physical capability limitation if they are given right conditioning. The theory of behaviorism is related to the concern of client on mental health and substance abuse because behavioral therapy was born from behaviorism and initially was used to get treatment for autism and schizophrenia. So, this theory helped people change their thoughts and behaviors just by improving their overall mental health by using therapeutic techniques. This involves intense behavior analysis and intervention, which have proved to be very effective in changing their maladaptive and harmful behaviors in adults as well as the children. Behavior analysis is an important tool used in the form of therapeutic technique that can help the children having autism or any types of developmental delays to get new type of skills that can help them lead a life normally in the society (Maag, 2014). There are different type of processes involved here like shaping and chaining the behavior towards the desired behavior by teaching skills that are needed to be developed. So, these techniques are powerful enough to play a crucial role in Human Behavior & the Social Environment 3 modifying the behavior that is problematic and encouraging to get a positive one by discouraging unwanted behaviors. Another theory that is related to the client’s issue on mental health and substance abuse is cognitive theory as this theory attempts to describe the human behavior by studying the mental process that is involved here when they are trying to learn and understand different things. In this theory, initially the therapists start to compare the human brain with a computer so as to understand all the information capabilities that is there to bring out processing abilities in humans. Here, Swiss psychologist Jean Piaget came up with a conclusion that people used mental frameworks like schemes that are tied together with a mid-meaning that could help them build their internal sense (Miller, 2019). So, this theory explains what is human behavior by studying the thought processes of humans, as the thoughts are the main factors that drive emotions and other types of behavior in humans. An example here can be a therapist that can use different types of principles of cognitive theory that can help to identify the different thought patterns in humans and thereby transform them into more constructive ones. This uses cognitive restructuring process that becomes an effective plan of treatment to treat patients having anxiety or depression or any other type of mental issues. Here the therapist starts by asking questions that can help to analyze the answers that can help to increase the understanding the anxiety and also help in assisting and starting the maladaptive thoughts again. There are other different types of ways developed by theorists from their own twist in relation to cognitive way of thinking with regards to mental health. Human Behavior & the Social Environment 4 Some therapists believe that negative thoughts arise by dysfunctional beliefs and are major causes of depressive symptoms in humans and so the more negative thoughts one can experience, more depression can occur in them (Crum, 2021). The cognitive therapy helps to explain the individuals understand and change negative thinking patterns that can help them improve their life and mood and overall quality of life using the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) which is a type of talk therapy. This theory helps to manage the problems by changing ways by which people can think and behave especially mental disorders and anxiety or depression as well as health problems. More emphasis is placed on helping individuals that can help them learn with the help of exercises that is outside of sessions, patients and clients who can develop skills that can help them change their thinking in a more positive manner and have behavior that can help them lead a healthy life.
