The application of skill-based approach for current and future workforce provides a clarity on the workforce gaps which are prevailing in the current workforce, and it also enables us to the know the future skills required out of the future workforce which helps to retain the best employees of the organization. The certain methods which can be applied in assessing how skilled the workforce is at aggregate level are the Firstly, there should be a pre-defined specific skill set and competencies which should be in synchronization with the goals and objectives of the organization. Secondly, a performance review of the employees should be conducted which gives a basic idea about the performance of the employees. Surveys should also be conducted at regular intervals, which provides feedback on the training requirements of the employees. There are certain methods which help to identify the skill gaps in the workforce. Benchmarking the skills of the workforce against the standard of the industry will definitely help in identifying the gaps. Skill Assessments can also be conducted which provide the necessary data on the current skill set of the employees. Feedback from the managers and the team leaders also plays a significant role because they closely observe the day-to-day performance of the employees. In my opinion, the skills that would be required in future that might not be in existence currently are the implementation of Artificial Intelligence in their work as it is an emerging thing.
