Answer Below:

The three factors as mentioned in figure 8.9 are ability, motivation and environment. These factors impact the employee performance and productivity. If an employee is performing poorly it might be because of one or some or all of these factors combined. As a manager I need to figure out the reasons due to which an employee is performing poorly. This needs open communication which would act as a feedback towards the organizational culture and environment in which the employee is operating. In order to thrive well, the environment and inner motivation plays the major role (Kappel, 2019). Three ways by which employee performance can be improved: 1. Prioritizing on their strengths and accepting their inherent limitations: It is not possible to always convert a weak area of an employee and turn it around to their strengths. Sometimes, it is important to accept that a certain weak area of the employee cannot be changed even after training, development and learning. Under such circumstances understanding the limitations and redesigning the job portfolio of the employee can provide them with opportunities where they can thrive and shine (Kappel, 2019). 2. Taking negative feedback from employee often make them feel heard and providing them with required assistance to overcome the impediments may boost productivity. Since the employee feels that his criticism led to a change or shift in culture, they would refocus on their job leading to more success. 3. Encouraging stretch goals to the organizational culture would move employees move out of their comfort zones. Creating and expressing the fact that taking big chances would create big changes shall act as a guiding force towards the employee motivation. Every human is different and it is impossible to understand anyone completely. Hence understanding the guiding force of any one individual completely is difficult. Under such circumstance it is crucial to employ various strategies to boost productivity and performance leading to achieving organizational goals effectively and effectively.
