Question.472 - Topic 5 DQ 2 According to the Christian worldview, how does one gain eternal life? Use Bible verses to support your response. How does the Christian concept of the afterlife differ from that concept in other worldviews?
Answer Below:
Hello Class! I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life.?(John 5:24). Eternal life is a significant result of God's grace and grace is possible only when we have solid faith in Jesus and his teachings. As Jesus says in the above statement, eternal life is nothing but reconciliation with God. So, in order to gain eternal life, we should follow the teachings of Jesus and have faith in his plans for us without doubting him. Although, it is not possible for us to be perfect like Jesus but we can do good deeds as much as we can and get eternal life. According to the Christian world, Jesus appreciates a person's efforts to make good things even in such a hard life. Unlike Christians, different religions across the world have different views on the concept of death which gives their own evidence that makes sense. For instance, Buddhists believe in the continuous cycle of death and birth, Islam believes that the soul has life even after physical death, Hinduism believes in reincarnation, and atheists think there is no life at all after death. Each one of them have their own views and logic that gives evidence. Reference Keener, C. S. (2011). Angry Enough to Kill (5:21-26).
