Question.468 - Topic 4 DQ 2 Read the parable of the Prodigal Son (Luke 15:11-32) and answer the following questions:  What do you believe is the main theme Jesus is communicating? Explain the three principal characters. Who do you identify with the most, and why?

Answer Below:

In the parable of the Prodigal Son (Luke 15:11-32), the father himself is God with his two sons. The whole theme of the story is that God forgives any sin of their children. It says that asking for forgiveness is not wrong because we are humans and mistakes happen. But the important thing is to realize the mistake and correct it on ourselves before it takes out the life. The three principal characters in the story are two sons with totally different personalities and a father. The first son leaves behind his family and chose wealth over the family but the second son stays with his family and gives support in all ways. But later the first son comes back after realizing his mistake and the father who waited for a long time for his sons return is truly happy and welcomed him with his whole heart. This makes the other son feel bad as he did everything for his family but he did not receive any credits. The story is one side demonstrated the reality of human life and on the other side explains gods attributes and how he forgives his children. Another message that the story gives is God expects humans to learn from their own mistakes and move forward in life and God does not want to take revenge because the human did not do the right thing as he expects. Another reality mentioned in the story is through the second son which is many people do everything for their loved ones but it will not get recognized which is called expectation and that hurts. ?I identify myself with the second son in the story as I expected things that I offered to my loved one and it did hurt deeply when that person even did not recognized them. So, I have learned that keeping expectations is our fault and we just need to fulfill our deeds and move on with life.
