Question.4188 - Week 1 Civil Discourse Forum Open Forum Export View posters Subscribe to this forum Completion requirements This week, you learned that there exist various definitions of leadership. You have also studied GMC's history, core values, ethics, the Honor Code, and Character Development. Post 1: Using what you have read this week, reflect on and answer the following questions in 150 words. You will use the provided links in Week 1 and your research from the GMC databases (no Google, Bing, etc searches) to define leadership. You will include this research at the bottom of your initial post, in MLA format, to avoid plagiarism. Make sure to visit the Student Resources for help with using the GMC databases and MLA formatting. Topics to address: Based on your research, share your in-depth and critical definition of leadership. Thinking ahead: You will use this definition in your future papers (weeks 3, 5, and 7). How would you describe yourself as a leader? How might GMC's core values, ethics, and honor code help you in college and as a future leader? What is the difference between a leader, a manager, and a boss? How will this knowledge help in your future as a leader? Posts 2 + 3: Respond to two classmates and the professor. (Remember your professor counts as a response. If your professor asks you a question, you will respond to your professor. You would not ignore a professor's questions in an in-seat class, do not do it in an online class.) Your responses should be 100 words in length. They should continue the conversation. Statements like "good post" or "I agree" will not earn credit. Also, restating what your peer wrote will not earn credit. A manner to continue the conversation is to find an article and share what is of interest to you. Think of your responses in terms of a contribution to a dialogue, not a writing exercise or a chat room. Elaborate on a single idea and incorporate what you have learned from the weekly reading material and from your own real-world experiences. Put your writing into your own words, do not copy directly from the source. Make sure to include a source with all initial posts to earn full credit (like the required resources). If you incorporate external resources (http://gmcga.libguides.com/periodicals) in your posts be sure to cite (http://gmcga.libguides.com/citationmanagement/mla) them properly. Lastly, review how to paraphrase and quote resources before you begin posting (http://gmcga.libguides.com/c.php?g=458&p=996448). Please review the Civil Discourse guidelines in the Course Syllabus to see how you will be graded. You will not see any posts for 30 minutes. This is to give you time to edit your original comments. You will be unable to edit after the 30 minutes have passed. Also, respond to your professor's posting. Do NOT start a new thread or discussion post. Do not click on "add a new discussion."
Answer Below:
Leadership Reflection Based on the research, leadership can be defined as the ability to influence, inspire, and guide individuals or groups toward achieving common goals through ethical practices and effective communication. Leadership involves vision, empathy, and adaptability, fostering a collaborative environment that motivates others to reach their potential. I would describe myself as a leader who values active listening, integrity, and the ability to empower others. I believe in fostering a supportive environment where each team member’s strengths are recognized and utilized for collective success. GMC’s core values of duty, honor, and country, along with its ethics and Honor Code, reinforce principles of integrity, accountability, and respect. These values will guide my decision-making and interactions, ensuring I lead with fairness and honor both in college and in future leadership roles. The distinction between a leader, a manager, and a boss lies in their approaches. A leader inspires and mentors, focusing on growth and shared vision; a manager organizes and oversees tasks; a boss primarily directs and exercises authority. Understanding these differences will help me adopt a leadership style that prioritizes collaboration, motivation, and ethical guidance.
