Question.2293 - The purpose of the Final Project is to give you experience in researching media convergence in one of the broad topics covered in this course. You will also investigate how media convergence is applied to a common form of mass communication and how this affects you and others. You will explore how production, distribution, and exhibition of one of the media are changing due to some definable aspect of digitization. After choosing a broad topic and narrowing that topic, you will: 1. Research your topic. 2. Produce an outline for a report (paper) in which you will present your findings. 3. Building on your outline, produce a report from an industry perspective. In your Final Project you will assess some of the ramifications for this industry and speculate about the functions and effects for them and others. This is a written research paper project that also includes an outline and works cited page along with the final paper. Length of final paper: 5–7 pages (including works cited page). Guidelines and Requirements 1. Review the information in your text about media convergence (the blending of communication technologies, operations, or businesses). Then go to Google or any search engine and type in the words media convergence. Read at least three articles that discuss media convergence and the concentration of media ownership. 2. When you have a good idea of what media convergence is, choose from the following list a form of mass communication that you use most often or that interests you most: a. newspapers b. magazines c. books d. radio e. sound recording f. motion pictures 3. Once you have chosen one of these broad topics, you’ll need to narrow down that topic to a particular product, service, or phenomenon within this industry. For example, if you are an avid reader, you might investigate how the printed book industry is changing due to digital distribution. To narrow this broad topic, you might look at the role that computers have in the book publishing industry (for example, how ordering books on Amazon may have replaced an actual trip to the Copyright © 2017 by Thomas Edison State University. All rights reserved. bookstore). Or you might explore how retail bookstores (like Barnes & Noble) have changed (coffee, sofas, music, etc.) the face of bookstores in general. You could also explore e-books or digital books for Kindles. These topics are all included in digital distribution, so you need to choose one to research. For functions and effects, you might note the many retail Websites on the Internet for book sales. How is this affecting your visit to the bookstore and how you might socialize there? The point is to analyze how you and others are affected by digital book sales. When choosing your own topic, be sure to choose a topic that interests you. 4. You are required to submit an outline draft of your intended paper and a sample works cited page (consult the Course Calendar for the due date). The outline may be topical, but you’ll need to show that you have a pattern for organizing your paper and that you have researched the topic. 5. You will need to use at least eight sources in your final paper (you may have more but not less). You may use books, newspaper articles, journals, and general circulation magazine articles, either in print or online. Keep in mind that you are writing an academic research paper, so use appropriate and credible sources. You MUST use APA or MLA style for referencing your sources both in the text and in the works cited page. Try to use at least one source from a broadcast or cable program, and, if possible, try to use an interview (for example, someone connected to that industry). 6. Part of your paper must include an assessment of how you gained information about your topic. For example, you need to assess the importance of your sources in terms of actual information that contributed to your learning about your topic. Also, assess how accessible each of your sources was—what did you have to do to actually get the material? You will probably want to discuss the Internet and its role as a new mass medium, especially if you used the Internet for your research. 7. You must use Times New Roman or Arial font, 12 point, for your final paper, and it must be double-spaced. Be sure to include page numbers and a title (title page is not necessary).

Radios, books, TV channels, and online platforms help to circulate information and knowledge among targeted consumers and groups (Puspitarini & Hanif, 2019). The study has emphasised media coverage and mass media communications and their relevance to the recent scenario of the society. Media coverage Media coverage is a procedure that can help individuals to pay attention to their business and values while developing an emotional connection with the audiences. It helps to analyze and measure the effectiveness and also compare their performances against their peer groups (Twenge, Martin & Spitzberg, 2019). It reaches shared media and earned spans. Books as a form of media Books are considered the oldest form of print media. It has been used as a way of communication and to elaborate pieces of information. Books give individuals opportunities to spread their knowledge about a particular subject to the entire world. Even today, they play a very important role in mass communication. It creates the exchange of information on a wider scale books can take a lot of time to produce or provide in-depth information about a particular subject. They are mostly written by professionals and they stay in power. Schools, colleges, and universities include books as their academic piece. Modern media has come up with different formats of books such as printed media books, digital books, and digital libraries. Every media involves interesting content and that content is delivered and spread among individuals. It has been considered as the largest surviving source as a part of the print media. Books may be considered our best friends (Tuah, Herman & Maknun, 2019). It can 4 illuminate the imagination of people, form a unique perspective of the world around individuals, and build confidence. It can help people to grow emotionally and mentally by enhancing their vocabulary and by helping them to learn new languages containing information that one should remember and learn. Several types of books come up with different content. There are story books, textbooks as well as encyclopedias for reference. It is very important to cultivate the habit of reading books, especially at a younger age. It improves concentration and reading skills (Wahl-Jorgensen, 2019). Books may be compact or portable and can create an added advantage over media forms. The gradual shift from printed books to digital books The advent of digitalization and modernization has gradually shifted the tendency of reading printed books to getting hold of digital books on online platforms. Publishing companies are now including tactics to spread and distribute digital content over easy grounds. This saves money compared to printing. Readers of print books observe and remember more amount of knowledge and plot than that ebook readers. According to a study, there is around a 14% increase in ebook readers in different parts of the world. The printed readers however score higher in areas of empathy, emotion, and understanding of narrative while reading physical books. Now people are getting access to books easily (Altheide, 2019). Several digital books are available on online platforms and therefore physically buying a book is now becoming real. On the other hand, it can be said that having hundreds of books on online platforms makes it lesser time-consuming for people to get access to it. Several people feel that ebooks are easier to read and get access to. They offered several advantages over printed media. It is cost-effective, environment-friendly, convenient as well as portable (Myers, 2021). There are several customization options accessibility features as well as elements related to multimedia that may not be available when it comes to printed 5 books. Digital printing technology has allowed books to be printed over high-quality lasers and printers (McCollough, 2021). The colored covers are printed over card stock and they can be used for a longer term. However, it can be said that the traditional form of reading books is still not eradicated. People tend to walk into libraries or buy books from online platforms and read them in physical form. I can say that physical books or printed books are much more popular than online books. The magical smell of a newly published book is something that I have always preferred. Regardless of any format, what truly matters is the process of taking yourself out of the hectic life and getting lost in a book. Different types of people indeed believe that ebooks are far better than printed books (Daris, 2022). They can enjoy it without actually carrying the book. Old-fashioned truth is to be told, where old-fashioned avid readers have always preferred printed books over ebooks. If one is an enthusiast traveler and also an avid reader, they can take books along with them on their holidays. However, sometimes their favourite books might be significantly heavy to carry. Also, this can occupy a lot of space in the luggage. Therefore the advancement of technology has brought opportunities where people can become leaders. You can carry an entire library in your pocket. Several people still love to read physical books since they offered something that is grounded and more tangible. It feels more permanent than the digital formats. According to research, it is seen that only around 16% of adults prefer reading digital books on average, adults own around 49 books and read them for around 3 hours per week. Reading may be considered as a part of escapism (Kizi, 2020). It can help people to get a break from their daily lives and provide opportunities to learn something new. In recent years the digital world with wariness and excitement. They are excited about revolutionized reading with the advent 6 of digital books. It is considered to be more accessible than many other ways. Several entities have helped people to make this revolution impossible ways but still having physical books is always respected. Readers books sellers authors as well as librarians have built up generations where people can experience physical books. Lesser bookstore visits due to online libraries It can be considered a traditional culture that people visit bookstores and find themselves among different varieties of books and printed information. Libraries and bookstores give us experience and nostalgia apart from providing us with an ample amount of knowledge. It is a habit of individuals to sit with a cup of coffee and a book in hand (Walker, 2019). It gives them immense pleasure and provides them with an ample amount of experience and knowledge. However, with the advent of modernization, printed books are now getting a backlog. It is now rare to find individuals enjoying their time with a coffee and a book. They are often found to be fiddling with their phones or being active on social media platforms. However, I believe that traditional libraries provide us with the best experiences. Sitting in a library where everything is quiet and indulging oneself in the pages of a book is something that one can never get tired of (Anu, 2022). Libraries and bookstores provide us with the gateway to knowledge and culture. They play a very essential role within the society. The services and the resources create opportunities based upon learning education, supporting literacy, and shaping new ideas and perspectives which can provide central and creative grounds for an innovative society. They play an essential role within the local communities and provide access to resources and information. It supports education, literacy, promotion of learning and serves as a place for community gatherings. The importance of libraries and bookstores can be experienced by every community member (Chen, Jin & Li, 2022). It is not only a crucial source of information but can also uncultivated the habit of reading without 7 any distraction. The majority of schools and colleges have libraries which are a big part of the student’s life and serve as the storehouse of information. Aspects of socialisation Bookstores and libraries are places of socialization not only through books and information but also by communicating with different people. It provides individuals with an ample amount of topics that come up in the form of conversation. Talking about the topics leads to logical and reasoning growth and is perfect for group discussions. There are several benefits of reading which can develop social skills for people. A book be considered an agency of socialization. It develops strength through empathy which is crucial to connect relationships with others. Reading books creates the best way for developing and empathizing with reasonable values. It broadens the understanding of the world and introduces them to a variety of ideas, places, cultures as well as people (Stoddart et al. 2023). People in coffee houses or cafes can talk about books with each other and share their ideas accordingly. The capacity of a reader is enhanced through imagination. People can try to imagine the characters of the book in the real world. They develop a better understanding of each other and adhere less to the prejudices. When people are carried away by each other’s stories, it helps them to develop empathy. It increases knowledge among individuals, improves their intellect and also makes them aware of civilizations. It can be stated that there are 5 agents of socialization which include education, family, organisations, peer groups, and mass media. Critically reading books can help people to become agents of socialization. It can be described in several ways (Dunaway & Graber, 2022). I believe that fiddling on social media platforms and resting time in posting stories on Facebook should be stopped. Instead, people should start visiting bookstores and libraries often to help them relax their minds. It can make them stress-free and can allow them to have their freedom of expression. Books can be 8 considered best friends for people. The stories try to connect each other with the real world the shared love of the same book can bring people closer and they can have a good conversation over a cup of coffee. It increases the knowledge and makes people more creative. They may be considered the best solutions to problems let come up in their way (Moore & Colley, 2022). Reading various types of books can help individuals to look at the world from an Old-fashioned truth different types of people indeed believe Importance of resources I have mostly collected secondary resources on the topic. I have found the resources from websites and journals. The resources are authentic and have been listed and written by professionals and scholars. The amount of information that I have got is reasonable and logical and I have evaluated them on important grounds. This has helped to make the research more specific and analytical (Maurer et al. 2022). I believe that my future endeavors will positively make the research work successfully. Conclusion Books are an important part of media coverage and have always been an essential aspect of our lives. They can come up with different solutions and can help people to look at the world through colored glass. Reading books regularly can help people to relax their minds. However, with the advent of modernization and digitalization, there is a rapid shift from printed or physical books to digital books. 9 Reference Altheide, D. (2019).
