Answer Below:
I would like to discuss "against" the movie "Life Is Beautiful" (1997). Firstly, to start with - the movie takes place during the Holocaust, but the presentation is achieved through a comical sense, keeping comedy as a priority - which could be theoretical contention portraying the Holocaust with varying historical events; the comedy elements inserted tend to trivialize the seriousness of what the event demanded. From a utilitarian standpoint, that is, to choose a deed that favors the majority of the audience considering ethics, comedy within a concentration camp seemed a little harsh on the real emotional appropriateness. I felt it undermined the respect historical events owned, but I would also like to state that this movie in the present era could be subjected to criticism, unlike the period when it was released. From aesthetical dissonance, I believe the first half was entirely romantic at the back-drop of a pre-war while taking the audiences to experience a sudden shift, in reality, showcasing the concentration camps, with this tonal shift from watching some light to serious pain served a contradictory emotion disrupting emotional confusion in view experience. Thematically, the screenplay takes the audiences on an inconsistent imaginative ride; the first half sets a tone of love that endures adversity, taking an abrupt turn depicting the Holocaust, blending comedy and tragedy, with the latter half overshadowing the optimism of the first, rather more of a confusion. This thematic imbalance may leave people uncertain about the intended message and impact of the narrative. I believe that Benigni wanted to recreate the impact of Charlie Chaplin, that is, conveying the intended message through comedy or even the plays of Shakespeare, particularly Romeo and Juliet, utilizes comedy as a tool to connect the audience to the characters, more like smoother incorporation but the screenplay included traces of story in terms of what is to be expected in the later stage of the movie. This contradiction was what gave the movie its unique selling point, which was something out of the ordinary. in conclusion -the abrupt tonal shift and thematic inconsistencies further contributed to a divisive reception, with the film being met with both praise and skepticism.More Articles From Film and Movies
