Question.2527 - What are the advantages and disadvantages of identifying yourself as a social worker versus a case manager, therapist, or counselor?

Answer Below:

When I identify as a social worker, I am offered diverse opportunities. I have the skills to work with non-profits, government organizations, schools, and hospitals. To have a career as a social worker, I have diverse opportunities in various fields of work. As a social worker, I will be licensed to provide social or therapy services. An added advantage of being a social worker is I will be trained to address the social, emotional, and practical needs of individuals and communities that offer a holistic approach to problem-solving (12 pros and cons of being a social worker (plus tips) | indeed.com). However, people misunderstand the role of social workers. They think that social workers primarily provide financial help services. This acts as a major drawback, and sometimes, social workers often face heavy, emotionally challenging situations, which can lead to stress. They will sometimes have heavy workloads depending upon the cases they come across.   When I identify as a case manager, I will focus on connecting with clients, providing them with the necessary resources and services, and ensuring they receive support. Case managers collaborate with professionals and agencies. A disadvantage of case managers is they do not focus on deeper emotional or psychological concerns; instead, they focus more on logistical and practical issues.   References 12 pros and cons of being a social worker (plus tips) | indeed.com.
