Answer Below:

According to my understanding from chapter 7, "The Presidency," from the textbook, there are several factors that tend to contribute to the development and expansion of presidential powers: Firstly, the influential factor of time, such as if the period during the time a president is in power faces any crisis as the world war since crisis like war tends to test a nations operational framework and leaves behind a lot of learning which leads to the expansion of the power. One such example has been discussed in the book about the civil war, whereby during the 1860s, when the war broke out, the nation demanded a robust sense of leadership, one of the shining examples that paved the way for the expansion of the presidential power during the Civil war was Abraham Lincoln and his leadership, that extended the boundaries of the presidency (O'Connor et al., 2021).  Over the period of the years, presidential powers have evolved through the establishment of precedents, for instance, considering George Washington, who established the primacy of the national government while at the same time institutionalizing the cabinet system, asserting the role of chief executives in terms of foreign affairs and possess authority in terms of policy making in neutrality (O'Connor et al., 2021). During the time when Franklin D. Roosevelt was the president around the 1930s when the nation was facing a great depression, while Roosevelt brought in new interventions out of the power vested, wherein from he obtained "broad executive powers" in order to tackle the economic crisis and implement several initiatives to address it. During Roosevelt's presidency, the stereotypical barrier between the people and the president was broken since he was one of the presidents who personalized the presidency role through his radio addresses, known as fireside chats, which shattered the communication barrier, whereby people were able to directly communicate with the president, and he was able to take public opinion into the policy-making interventions (O'Connor et al., 2021). Roosevelt also established a federal agency in order to implement the New Deal that aided in transforming the presidency into a more active participatory policy maker.   While considering the present era, where the policies enacted by the president tend to be influenced by several other factors, like the authority backing provided to them by article II of the constitution in addition to the supreme court legitimizing the constitutional provisions, they serve as the execution of power, while not to forget the supporting authorities that influence the presidential powers such as the confidantes, committee advisers, and office personalities in leadership roles (O'Connor et al., 2021). While the presidential role tends to be vital in terms of utilizing their constitutional powers to incline the policies towards public advisers, making it actually "For the people."
