Question.3605 - From this week's reading, write at least a 250-word discussion on your perception of the quality of weather reports provided by meteorologists. Which weather information do you find the most useful? Which weather information do you find irrelevant to your daily lives? What is your ideal weather forecast report? Your response to other students should be about how their views on weather reports would impact you personally.

Answer Below:

According to my understanding from the weekly resources, I believe Meteorologists tend to possess a critical job role in terms of providing timely and accurate reports that have significant influence over day-to-day acclivities that depend on it, in addition to the insights obtained by NWS weather forecasting involves immense knowledge and expertise in the field of science and mitigation skills, more like a scientific art form that relies solely on complex un-structured datasets to form a prediction around it; however, according to my experience following daily weather updates, I feel it weather forecasts can be entrusted for an approximate period of 1 to 5 days, in terms of accuracy maybe 1 - 2 days can be relied on but longer period more than 5 days depends on several factors like the atmospheric conditions making it inherently unpredictable, although AI and data analytics have been integrated lately by several weather forecasting networks the credibility is at question. I rely on daily temperatures, precipitation probability, rate of humidity and severity of rain - since these factors impact me on a daily basis in terms of what mode of transport I should take, what dress to wear, how many things to carry for work, and more. A few days back, there was a prediction of scattered thunderstorms, and my small business required me to carry a few things and supplies; I restricted supply within a reachable zone wherein I could reach home soon and also stay dry. To me, certain weather data, detailed wind speeds (as long as I choose to go sailing), or barometric pressure (as long as I go on a high-altitude trekking) seem irrelevant to my daily routine. While these factors are important for professionals in aviation, sailing, or certain outdoor activities, they rarely influence my decisions. I want my ideal weather forecast report to be concise, easy to read and understand in one go and also have scope to explore the technical side if I want to assess key elements like temperature, precipitation, and severe weather warnings in depth. I would appreciate clear visuals, like radar maps, which help contextualize the information to a common man, along with simplified explanations of weather patterns. Additionally, receiving forecasts tailored to specific times of the day would be valuable for planning morning commutes or evening events. References McKay, D. R. (2018, August 27).
