Question.1476 - Paper 3 Application Introduction to Research Academic writing represents the pinnacle of research and analysis. This is why Papers 1, 2, and 3 are such a major part of this course. By the end of each paper you will have a firmer grasp of Scripture and an ability to explain why you believe what you believe about the assigned passage for the semester. Papers 1, 2, and 3 are formal, evidence-based research papers that focus on different aspects of this semesters assigned passage of Scripture. Paper 1 will focus on the biblical book as a whole and on the historical context in which it was written. Paper 2 will focus on the specific assigned passage in its historical, literary, and linguistic contexts. Paper 3 will explore hermeneutically-responsible applications of the assigned passage in light of the work that was done in the first two papers. Paper 3 will require much less research than the first two papers, but it is still a formal, technical analysis of the assigned passage. Only three academic resources are required in the bibliography. Paper 3 Application Paper 3 consists of three main parts and will be just over two pages (500 words) long. Three Questions Write a minimum of 250 words that identify and reflect on three questions you still have about the assigned passage. If you were going to do more research into the passage, what would you look into? Why do these questions interest you? How might they help you understand the passage to a greater depth? Three Academic Resources (One Per Question) Identify and cite three academic journal articles that address the questions you wrote above, one article per question. If there is a book or essay collection or dictionary article that addresses the question, cite the specific page range in that resource where it addresses your question. This section will look like a three-resource bibliography. If it is not clear from the title of each resource how it addresses one of the questions from the previous section, provide a brief explanation of how that resource does address the question. Three Sermon Ideas Identify three sermons or lessons that you could write that are based on the assigned passage. Identify a title for each message. Then write at least 250 words that describe all three messages, that describes how they are each an exegetically-responsible application of the assigned biblical passage, and what each message intends for the audience to do with the information on both an individual and a corporate level. Do not write three actual sermons or lessons for this assignment. Instead, use this section of the assignment to describe the messages and what they intend to accomplish. Use the following required headings in your paper Introduction Three Questions Three Academic Resources Three Sermon Ideas Conclusion Bibliography Introduction (approx. 50-75 words) (5% of the grade) Introduce your passage by citing the biblical passage and giving a one-sentence elevator pitch of what the passage is about. Tell the audience what you are going to say and how you are going to say it. Three Questions (approx. 250 words) (40% of the grade) Identify and discuss three questions that you still have regarding the assigned passage. Three Academic Sources (10% of the grade) Cite three source, bibliography-style, that address the questions you identified in the prior section. They do not need to answer the questions directly but should be related. Three Sermons (approx. 250 words) (40% of the grade) Do not write three sermons, but instead write about three potential sermons or teachings that could be given, based on an exegetically-responsible understanding of the assigned passage. Identify the title of each sermon/lesson, discuss what each sermon/lesson would be about, and discuss what each sermon/lesson indents to accomplish in the individual and corporate lives of the audience. Be creative. Conclusion (approx. 50-75 words) (5% of the grade) Summarize with a few words on what you have learned from this three-paper series this semester.
