The background is green which accentuates the color of his blood. The figure represents agony as body is showed as skinny. The shoulders are angular and the stomach is distorted. It is conveyed through this painting that God understands the human pain and suffering. The hands are made claw like, the shins are deformed and ribcage is visible. It is explaining the horrors of wars like the people who died in the concentration camps during the reign of Hitler (Toovey, 2021). The picture is depicting the human sin and how the God shares the burden of suffering.
