The rock cycle is very complex and detailed, but the basic ideas can be summarized in a single diagram. People say that a picture is worth a thousand words and, in science at least, this is definitely true! If you really understand the rock cycle, you already have a decent grasp on the fundamentals of geology. And nothing proves you understand something like having to clearly explain it in a figure or diagram. In this assignment you will draw your own version of the rock cycle. I recommend doing the drawing by hand, but if you want to use digital methods to create your rock cycle drawing, that's ok too. Make sure to include the three types of rock as well as arrows indicating the various processes through which rocks transform from one type to another. And remember that some types of rock and transform into another rock of the same type (think about how this would apply to metamorphic and sedimentary rocks). If you need ideas for how you might depict the rock cycle, you can find some hereLinks to an external site. and hereLinks to an external site.. Read Ch. 3.1 of our textbookLinks to an external site. for a good description of the rock cycle you can use, as well. Words have their worth, too, so I want you to also write about what's happening in the diagram you drew in a few short paragraphs. As always, explain things in your own words, don't feel obligated to use clunky terminology, and keep it focused on the basic ideas.Steps:Draw the rock cycle by hand on a sheet of paper. Represent rock types and represent geologic processes and label each item in your drawing. Make sure you include ALL the possible transformations between different rock types and be sure that they are all labeled. For each of the three rock types, respond to the following questions in short essay form. Clearly label each rock type you're discussing so your written responses are easy to follow (e.g. Sedimentary rock: followed by a couple of paragraphs responding to the prompts below) What are the processes through which this rock type forms? How does this rock type transform into other rock types? Can this rock type transform into another form of its own type? (e.g. can sedimentary rocks become sedimentary rocks?)Upload both the rock cycle diagram and your written responses hereHow will this assignment be graded:This assignment is worth 60 points distributed as follows:Rock cycle diagram: 30 pts10 pts each will be assigned for each rock type and all the process of formation and transformationWritten responses: 30 pts10 pts each will be assigned for each rock type and all the process of formation and transformation
