I choose to concentrate on the work of a victim advocate at the start of this course. My knowledge of victimology and the vital role this profession plays in helping crime victims has greatly expanded throughout the course. At first, I thought of victim advocacy mostly as a helping function that aimed to assist victims in navigating the criminal justice system. But I now realize that this line of work necessitates a thorough understanding of victimology, including the psychological effects of abuse, victims' legal rights, and the significance of trauma-informed care. The significance of empathy, active listening, and the use of restorative justice techniques are some of the key ideas that shaped my viewpoint. Additionally, I became more knowledgeable about the systemic obstacles victims encounter, such linguistic hurdles, cultural disparities, or retaliation anxiety, and how victim advocates may help them overcome these obstacles. This increased understanding has made it clear to me how important it is for victim advocates to establish rapport and offer tailored assistance in order to empower victims during their healing process.
